Ghorakal is the place situated in the Nainital district of the Uttarakhand state of India[1] Ghorakhal means pond for water to horses. It is the picturesque site at the height of more than 2,000 m.

It is situated near Bhowali and is the seat for Army school, known as Sainik School Ghorakhal, established in 1966 at the Ghorakhal Estate of the Nawab of Rampur. The famous Golu Devta temple is situated on a hill above overlooking the school.[2]

Some scenes of Madhumati 1958 classic by Bimal Roy, which was shot extensively around Nainital had some scenes shot at Ghorakhal as well. And scene of the temple in Vivah 2006 movie had the scene from the famous Golu Devta Mandir[3]

Golu Devta is considered to be an incarnation of Gaur Bhairav (Shiva), and is worshipped all over the region.    {{keyword}}       He is regarded as the dispenser of justice by the devotees with extreme faith. Historically, he is considered as the brave son of king Jhal Rai and his wife Kalinka, and a general of Katyuri king.
 
This temple is often in news for the unique rituals performed here.      {{keyword}}             One such ritual is that devotees make petitions at the temple , using stamps papers , to seek desired decree in litigations . On accomplishment of their wish , the deity is shown gratitude by hanging bells or making animal sacrifice .    {{keyword}}
